'87 Subaru GL, fuel delivery My '87 Subaru GL seems to be having a problem with fuel delivery. The pump is working, the filter is new, the gas is good. It will run well for a long time and then out of nowhere it starts to stumble and dies. Then, when it decides to, it starts running just fine again. It's getting spark.

You say the pump is running and you have spark - but are those working when the engine stops?

Discovering those things is probably the first step towards diagnosing the trouble.

How about the possibility of a foreign object in the fuel tank periodically cutting off the supply? It isn't an unusual thing...

Monitoring the fuel pressure while you drive is one way of discovering the truth.
