When I plug in my external harddrive, Windows misidentifies it. It wasn't always this way...? OK, I bought a Lacie Big Disk 500GB hard drive it works fine once windows properly identifies it. However presently, no matter what sequence I turn it on or plug it into my usb port Windows tries to install it as new hardware instead of just accessing the files or offering me the choice window. I'm deffinately no techy and I think this is an easy solution but my friend whom is sent his hard drive back to manufacture for repair for the same problem. That's not right is it? Anywho, thanks Scott

If Windows system did any upgrades it could lose drive settings. First, allow it some time to rebuild driver's database; if that doesn't work then try to restore windows to previous point.
