Timing chain broke, possible damage to heads won't start, everyone says that I may need a new motor, this is an automatic transmission. how can i tell if there is internal damage?

Has the timing chain or belt been replaced?? If not you can't check it unless you remove the head(s). If you did bend the valves it is doubtful the engine is destroyed other than needing new valves installed for the bent ones. So the cost would be about $800.00 more if a V6
