Chrysler - Dodge neon 1996 has fuel and maybe sensor issues My Neon runs well at idle. But above 60km/40mph the engine hunts for a constant speed. Mileage is double what it should be and there is no power. When I have to go up hill, Black smoke pours out and fuel almost evaporates. At 50mph the engine will misfire going downhill, but will run on acceleration. I thought it was spark, but it doesn't explain the double fuel usage?

Does the light work when you first turn the key? Does it come on? Check your ignition wires for arching also make sure you don't have a pool of oil in the spark plug tubes.
