How to prevent T-Mobile from throttling streaming videos
T-mobile recently confirmed that it is throttling bandwidth for video streaming services. The ‘binge-on program’ allows users to stream videos on online platforms including Youtube without it counting against the data plan.
Ideally, you should be able to connect to any other WiFi network to continue streaming at high speed. However, T- mobile subscribers cannot get a high speed for streaming on any other network if they’ve signed up on binge on.
T-Mobile only offers the access to a few stakeholders. It has also removed some of the services from throttling. However, if you are still facing any issue and want to disable binge on, here’s all you need to know:
Follow these steps to disable binge on T-Mobile
- Log in to your T-Mobile account and click on the profile icon at the top right
- Click on media settings
- From the menu that appears, flip the “binge on” toggle to the off position
- Refresh the page and check if you have successfully disabled binge on. It can take a while to process through so make sure that your binge on was disabled
You can check so by streaming an HD video. If it plays without or with few interruptions, you’re done. T- mobile recently released a dial only code to enable or disable binge on. You can use the codes #BON# and #BOF# to enable and disable Binge on respectively. Also, you will need to do this for each user (who wants to opt-out) on the plan separately.
